Student Travel Grants

Travel grants are available for senior undergraduate and graduate students to attend AMS meetings held in the U.S. or Canada. AMS recognizes the considerable benefit that students can gain from attending conferences even if they are not presenting a paper there.  AMS wants to encourage interactions between students and other conference attendees. To this end, travel grants will be awarded to a student who is not presenting a paper at the conference. More Information and Application

The Father James B. Macelwane Annual Award in Meteorology

The Father James B. Macelwane Annual Award was established by the American Meteorological Society to honor the late Rev. James B. Macelwane, S.J., a world‑renowned authority of seismology, who was a geophysicist and Dean of the Institute of Technology, Saint Louis University, until his death in 1956.  The recipient of the Father James B. Macelwane award will receive a stipend of $1000 supported by member donations to the AMS 21st Century Campaign. Deadline 11 June 2010 More Information and Application (PDF)

The Memphis Chapter of the American Meteorological Society/National Weather Association is providing a scholarship to a deserving student in order to promote
continuing education in the atmospheric sciences and/or meteorology and to provide encouragement to that student in his or her pursuit of a degree in atmospheric sciences.

14th Conference on Mountain Meteorology Student Prizes and Travel Assistance Information

Award certificates and cash prizes will be given for the best student oral and poster presentations at the conference. Multiple travel grants and travel awards are also available. See the Student Prizes and Travel Assistance Information page for more information.

AMS Scholarships and Fellowships

USA Science & Engineering Festival

AMS is proud to be an Official Partner of the inaugural USA Science & Engineering Festival to be held in the greater Washington DC area in October 2010. The Festival, which will be the country’s first national science festival, is a collaboration of over 500 of the country’s  leading science and engineering organizations and aims to reignite the interest of our nation’s youth in the sciences. The culmination of the Festival will be a two-day Expo on the National Mall on October 23-24, 2010, which will give children, teens and adults the opportunity to explore all facets of science & engineering through hundreds of fun, hands-on activities.

Annual Meeting Student Assistant Program

Open to AMS undergraduate student members only

The Student Assistant Program provides partial travel support to students willing to assist AMS staff in administering the annual meeting. Student assistants help with various tasks, including meeting registration, book/retail exhibit, committee meetings, and audio visual requirements.  Students must secure their own travel arrangements to and from the annual meeting site.  AMS will not cover travel cost.
