Elections

On behalf of the AMS Council, let me thank you for participating in this year's election. The Council has set the ballot structure to improve the balance and diversity on the Council to better reflect the AMS membership. The candidates for Council are presented in random order in two groups. While you are free to choose up to any four of the eight candidates, the Council suggests that you choose at least one candidate from each grouping. The four candidates receiving the most votes will be elected.

Keith L. Seitter, CCM
Executive Director

Spotlight: Weather, Climate, and Society

We are very pleased to announce that the first issue of Weather, Climate, and Society, the new journal of the American Meteorological Society, has just been published.   This interdisciplinary journal contains articles on making science useful to decision makers in the arena of climate forecasts, water management, and managing regional drought.  It also has articles on the impact of false alarms in terms of tornado casualties, the value of weather forecasts, and weather-indexed drought insurance.

The publication of this new interdisciplinary journal by one of the oldest and most respected physical science societies in the United States, is further evidence of the growing scientific consensus that the scientific study of weather and climate must encompass the study of human impacts, causes, and policies for weather and climate.
