AMS Student Meeting Travel Grants

Travel grants are available for senior undergraduate and graduate students to attend AMS meetings held in the U.S. or Canada. AMS recognizes the considerable benefit that students can gain from attending conferences even if they are not presenting a paper there.  AMS wants to encourage interactions between students and other conference attendees. To this end, travel grants will be awarded to a student who is not presenting a paper at the conference.

The travel grants are available only to those AMS members who are senior undergraduate students or graduate students.  A student must not be presenting a paper at the meeting. A student can receive no more than one travel grant award per calendar year, and may not apply for more than two meetings per calendar year, and not more than one conference per meeting (with the annual meeting counting as a single meeting), i.e., a student applies for travel grant to the annual meeting and receives an award, that student is not eligible to apply for another conference within the calendar year.

The grants will cover round‑trip air travel (within North America) to the meeting (you may be required to travel on Saturday in order to obtain the best airfare); base hotel charge (student will be responsible for meals and any extra charges on the hotel bill); and conference registration fee. Students may be asked to share a room with one or two other awardees at the discretion of AMS.

PLEASE NOTE: The AMS works with the conference hotels to secure special rates for AMS conferences.  In addition, students must arrange their own flight reservations and should secure the lowest possible airfare.  Therefore, it may be necessary to include a Saturday night stay (Saturday before the conference date) to receive the best rate.

Application Process and Deadline Information

Students must complete the online application form to participate.  Be sure to fill in all areas of the form.  Once the conference deadline has passed, the conference application link will no longer be available.

Selection Process

The awardees are selected by the program committee of that conference.  Awardees will be notified by email of their selection.  Please give at least two weeks after the deadline to receive notice.  All applicants will be notified of their standing.  If you have any questions regarding the AMS Student Travel Grant Program, please contact Donna Sampson, (617‑227‑2426 ext. 246; e‑mail: dsampson@ametsoc.org ).
