Ron Birk, an active AMS Member, is Program Manager for Weather and Climate Solutions in the Federal and Defense Technology Division of Northrop Grumman Information Systems in Mclean, Virginia. Mr Birk develops solutions to extend benefits of NGIS capabilities and products to serve US civil agencies and other demanding applications. Northrop Grumman Information Systems has information management and storage, environmental applications, geoportals, cybersecurity, decision support tools, and related technologies and expertise for the weather, water, and climate enterprise. Prior to his current position, Mr Birk served as director of business development for Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems. Before joining Northrop Grumman in 2006, he worked for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration as the Director of the Applied Sciences program in the Science Mission Directorate where he also served as co-chair of the US Group on Earth Observation and chair of the Measurement and Monitoring Systems working group for the Climate Change Technology Program. Mr Birk has many years of experience in developing and managing remote sensing systems and related Earth system science and technology for practical applications to benefit society. In addition to AMS, he is a member of the Aerospace Industries Association, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the American Astronautical Society, and the International Astronautical Federation. Mr Birk has a BS degree in physics (1982) from the University of Notre Dame.
