The 26th Conference on Severe Local Storms is sponsored by the American Meteorological Society and organized by the AMS Committee on Severe Local Storms. The conference will be held 5-8 November 2012 at the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel in Nashville, TN.

Note that the conference falls over US ELECTION DAY: Tues. 6 November.
You will be able to vote by absentee ballot. Applications for absentee ballots are readily available on-line (and vary by state). There is a deadline (in MA, for example, 20 days before the election date) that the
application must be postmarked by. Please don’t delay in getting your absentee ballot application in!

Registration

All attendees must register to attend the conference. Registration may be completed on-line, via fax-in form, or on-site.

Conference Registration Rates:

FULL-WEEK PACKAGE includes: a badge, program, admission to all sessions, coffee breaks, poster viewings, the Mon. Storm Video Night, and the Wednesday evening Banquet.

ONE-DAY PACKAGE includes for one calendar day only: a badge, program, admission to all sessions, coffee breaks, and evening events for the day with the exclusion of the Wed. evening banquet. Tickets to the Wed. evening banquet may be purchased separately for $77 until 10:30am on Tues. 11/6/12.

Registration Policy
Paper pre-registration forms are due with payment by 09/07/12 in order to receive the lower registration rate. Registrations received at AMS from 09/08/12 and through the conference dates will be processed at the higher rate (SEE RATES BELOW). After 10/24/12 please register at the meeting or On-line. Payment may be made with check, purchase order (HARD COPY REQUIRED) or credit card (MASTERCARD/VISA/ AMERICAN EXPRESS). FAXED registration forms must be accompanied by payment (PO OR CREDIT CARD # ONLY). Refunds are given (LESS A $25 FEE) if cancellation is received by 10/26/12 (NO REFUNDS THEREAFTER). Registration will not be processed without payment. Confirmation of registration will be e-mailed.

Accommodations

Attendees are responsible for making their own hotel arrangements. All meeting sessions for the conferences will be held at the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel, 2100 West End Avenue, Nashville, TN 37203.

We urge to book your hotel room at the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel as revenue from sleeping rooms helps offset other meeting costs and is passed down to attendees in keeping registration rates to a minimum.

A block of rooms have been reserved at the hotel for meeting attendees at the Nov. 2012 government per diem rate. (Currently $107 single/double occupancy + tax, but may be adjusted – see www.gsa.gov) AMS will announce the confirmed rate as soon as it is finalized for Nov. 2012.)

To receive the special meeting rate, attendees must request a room under the AMS block.

SLS 2012 Video Night: Call for Submissions!
At this year's upcoming SLS Conference, we will continue the tradition of having an informal evening session where individuals can showcase their recent video and photographs of severe weather. This year, "Video Night" is planned for Monday, November 5th from 8:00 - 10:00 p.m.

We are looking for submissions ranging from raw video to a polished video production, as well as slide shows. Contributions should be no more than 10 minutes long; this time limit will be strictly enforced. There is no need to send in your submissions ahead of time. Please bring your submissions the night of the presentation.

Video submissions must be on MiniDV, DVD, or provided in a commonly-used digital file format (.avi, .mpeg4, .mpeg2). High Definition (HD) submissions are also welcome. If submitting HD video, please also provide
a Standard Definition (SD) version in the event that we cannot secure HD video equipment.

Please email your intent to participate to Robin Tanamachi (rtanamachi@ou.edu) or Dan Dawson (Dan.Dawson@noaa.gov) by October 24th, 2012. In your email, please include your name and the nature of your presentation. You will be notified by email of the presentation schedule by October 29th, 2012.

26 SLS Women’s Dinner
Tuesday 5:30pm at 1808 Grille (located at 1808 West End Ave)

Conference Banquet – Wednesday
. An off-site conference dinner event will be held at the Parthenon on Wednesday evening. One ticket is included in each full-week registration package. Tickets for guests or One-Day registration package attendees ($77) will be available for purchase along with registration and a limited amount may be available on-site until the end of Tuesday’s first coffee break only.

Internet Accessibility
AMS has negotiated a contract with The Loews Vanderbilt Hotel with complimentary high-speed wireless internet access in public spaces and sleeping rooms.

Flying to Nashville
The Nashville International Airport is approx. 10 miles from the hotel (~15 min. drive).

Ground Transportation
From the Nashville International Airport, Gray Line Shuttle ($12 one way / $20 round-trip) is the best option (runs every 30 minutes and stops at 4 hotels in the area.)  A cab runs ~$27.

Self-parking at the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel is $16 per day (mention AMS rate); however a car is optional. The hotel is in close proximity to a variety of restaurants and mass transit is available for major sites of interest in the city.
