The 21st Conference on Major Weather Impacts is sponsored by the American Meteorological Society and organized by the AMS Board on Societal Impacts.

Call for Papers

Major Weather Impacts is looking at the science, decision support and the impacts of major weather events that occurred in the winter of 2023-24 and throughout the year of 2024.  From hurricanes, to winter storms, from tsunami events to severe weather outbreaks, if a weather, water or climate event impacted the public or your clients, this session is for you.  We have one day of presentations and a poster session that you can submit to.  This is not meant to be a meteorological review, although a few slides on the event can be included.  The focus is on WHAT happened, how it was communicated before, during and after the event, and the societal impacts that resulted.

We will not accept papers/posters that do not cover this time frame or focus on the topic of weather impacts.

Deadline:  August 15th  (There WILL NOT be an extension for this conference call for papers).  Significant events after August 15th will have presentations/speakers who are invited/recruited by the conference committee.

Papers for the 21st Conference on Major Weather Impacts are solicited on the following:

  • 2024 Baltimore Bridge Collapse
  • Major Weather Impacts of 2024
  • Other Topics in Major Weather Impacts
