2nd Annual Conference for Early Career Professionals

The 2nd Conference for Early Career Professionals was held in conjunction with the 94th AMS Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia.  The conference chairs were Matthew Lacke and Erik Pytlak.

Highlights of the conference:

  • Remarks from AMS President Dr. Marshall Shepherd
  • Rotating group discussions on workplace skills for early career professionals:  How to keep the job you currently have (led by Wendy Abshire, UCAR/COMET); How to get the next job/Image exposure (led by Erik Pytlak); How to become a leader (led by Kim Runk, NOAA/NWS); and How to navigate a diverse workplace (led by Rebecca Haacker-Santos, UCAR)
  • Panel discussion on AMS programs and opportunities with panelists incoming AMS President Bill Gail (Global Weather Corp.), Keither Seitter (Executive Director of AMS), Kenneth Carey (Early Resources Technology), and Christa Peters-Lidard (NASA/GSFC)
  • Panel discussion on early career issues with panelists Russ Schumacher (Colorado State University), Dan Gallagher (Baron Service, Inc.), Sarah Dillingham (The Weather Channel), and Paul Schlatter (NOAA/NWS)
  • The 4th Annual Reception for Early Career Professionals on Sunday evening
