AMS K-12 Teacher Workshops |
|
|
The AMS Education Program invites K12 science teachers to Kansas City and Annapolis in July for professional workshops. Educators have a chance to earn three tuition-free graduate credits from California University of Pennsylvania.
Project ATMOSPHERE participants will join fellow teachers in Kansas City, MO at NOAA’s National Weather Service Training Center, July 15-21, 2018 (with pre and post course online engagement). Learn from experts in meteorology and the atmospheric sciences while gaining valuable field experience. The application deadline is March 26, 2018.
The Maury Project participants will explore the physical foundations of oceanography at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, July 8-20, 2018 and gain hands-on experience in oceanographic research through a daylong excursion on the Chesapeake Bay. Applications are due March 19, 2018.

New AMS Statements |
The American Meteorological Society periodically issues statements on topics that fall within the scope of AMS expertise. Every statement, after passing review by the drafting committee and the AMS Council in draft form, is posted for comments from the AMS membership. The following three statements are until 18 February:
- Communicating Scientific Uncertainty in Weather, Water, and Climate Science
- Weather Safety at Venus and Public Gatherings
- Lightning Safety
Two more AMS Statements recently received final approval and are now in force:

- Best Practices for the Dissemination of Weather Warnings to the Public

TOMS |
Abbreviation for Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer. TOMS was first flown on ''Nimbus''-7, launched in November 1978, and has subsequently flown on ''Meteor''-3, ''ADEOS'', and other international satellites. The antarctic ozone hole was first discovered through analysis of TOMS data. |
