Statement from AMS President Roger Wakimoto

The current partial government shutdown is frustrating for all of us, but especially for our government employee colleagues who are directly affected. We continue to be hopeful that it will be resolved in time for many of those colleagues to join us for the 99th AMS Annual Meeting in Phoenix, 6-10 January. No matter how this works out, however, you can rest assured that the AMS meeting will be a terrific and significant event for the weather, water, and climate community. We are working closely with the volunteers who are organizing conferences, symposiums, and other sessions and events for the meeting to ensure a productive and valuable week for all attendees.

We are trying to get in touch with all of our presenters employed by the federal government to confirm whether or not they would be able to travel to Phoenix should the government shutdown continue. If you are a presenter employed by the federal government, please fill out the form here: to let us know. You will also be able to indicate your preference for presentation should you not be able to travel. Please feel free to send this survey to anyone you know may be affected.

If you request a registration refund, please allow 3 days for processing. AMS will honor any refund requests received before 11:59 pm EST on 3 January.
