Paul Gross

Paul Gross was born in Detroit, has spent his entire life and career in southeast Michigan, and worked at Detroit’s NBC-affiliated station, WDIV-TV from 1983 to 2023.

A proud University of Michigan atmospheric science graduate, Paul is one of only six meteorologists ever to be named a Certified Consulting Meteorologist, a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist, and a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society.  Paul chaired the Committee on the Station Scientist for its first seven years before handing over the reins, and has served in an ex-officio capacity ever since.  The Station Scientist concept has been a driving force in his forty-year television career, as Paul gave his first talk advocating the idea at a Broadcast Conference in the early 1990s.

Paul has been awarded eleven Emmys by the Michigan Chapter of the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences for his Station Scientist work, and his 2016 climate change webcast that aired live on WDIV’s website, ClickOnDetroit.com, earned a first-place award from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters.  Paul follows the science of global warming very carefully, and frequently gives lectures to share the scientific truth about Earth’s changing climate.  He also consults in the legal field and has testified in court as a meteorology expert witness nearly four dozen times.
