1. Lizzie Nosek, our student member, asks if anyone has anything they would like her to write a story about for our social media. Recent accomplishments or events?
2. A further discussion about having SSC host AMS webinars in 2023.
- Plan out AMS Webinars to highlight well known meteorologists and their commitment to presenting about climate change.
- Mike Nelson
- Paul Gross
- Amber Sullins
- Work to schedule webinars every quarter.
- Needed - topics, bios, headshots, date
3. Do we want to create a Slack page for the SSC?
- The NWS chat is going to be switching over to slack in 2023. We could set up an individual Slack channel. If there is something of interest, one person can post and then all of us can discuss. It’s free and easy. This is a good idea going forward.
4. Discussion about possible speakers for the Broadcast Conference next year.
- Next year AMS Conference ideas
- Space - Webb Telescope
- Elisa and Heather on Climate Coverage
- Robert Gauthreaux - doctorate study
-
- Have one committee member present during our 2023 SSC meetings on what you’re doing to promote climate change coverage at local community talks.
- Volunteers for the next three talks - Mike Nelson, Heather Waldman, Bob Lindmeier
- Perhaps these could be a part of our AMS Webinar series
- See if some of us could present at RTDNA regarding climate change. Get in front of news directors to help push this narrative.
5. AMS Broadcast Conference Location Update:
- Vanessa Alonzo and Danielle breezy are the chairs for the 2023 conference.
- The conference is not going to be in Los Angeles. Inflation put a stop to having the conference here.
- There is a location, but the meetings committee is finalizing the contract for the hotel and meeting place.
- Meeting dates are most likely the week of June 19. We are planning to have the short course on Tuesday the 20th. And then the conference will be held on the 21st through the 23rd of June.
- The conference will on the west coast and the hope is an announcement before Christmas.
