The incoming Commissioner on Professional Affairs collaborates with the current and past CProf commissioners to coordinate, communicate, and advance the activities of the boards and committees comprising the Commission. The incoming commissioner becomes current commissioner after 2 years, and past commissioner 2 years following that, for a total 6 year commitment. Professional Affairs Commissioners' responsibilities include:
Management of Commission
- Appointment of all Board/Committee Chairs and Members
- Link between Boards/Committees to other Commissions and the Council
- Support Board/Committee leadership to fulfill terms of reference
- Provide strategic guidance to the Commission and its Boards and Committees, including attending B/C meetings when possible
- Review and update commission Board and Committee terms of reference, as need
- Oversee process of society awards housed within Commission, and society-level awards as a member of the AMS Awards Oversight Committee (AOC)
- Oversee process of awarding Certifications (CBM, CCM, CDM) and review of appeals
- Work with the Executive Director, Council, and AMS Staff to advance the mission of the AMS
- Work with the Education and Engagement Commissioner on cross-commission activities and Boards (i.e. ECLA, Board on Student Affairs), including reviewing ECLA applications
Serving on Planning Commission
- Update Planning Commission on CProf activities
- Identify synergies between different Commission and Council efforts
- Provide strategic input for implementing goals of the Society
Participation and Reporting to Council
- Regularly report Commission activities to Council in written and verbal form (Board and Committee reports are due to Council before each of their meetings, which happen 3x/year)
- Attend and Participate in all Council deliberations by providing strategic input to Council actions from the Commission perspective (note: Commissioners are Ex Officio and are not voting members of Council)
- Seek feedback from Council to help provide strategic guidance to commission Boards and Committees
- Seek approval for Commission actions that require Council action
- Serving on task forces/working groups as needed/desired
Ideal candidates will have specific experience within the Commission at a Board or Committee level, have demonstrated commitment to the mission of the AMS, and have the capacity to manage the volunteer network and activities of a wide-ranging commission.
