The 24th Conference on Planned and Inadvertent Weather Modification was held as part of the 104th Annual AMS Meeting in Baltimore, MD. The conference kicked off with a Panel Discussion that was joint with the 37th Conference on Climate Variability and Change and the First Symposium on cloud Physics. The topic of the discussion was ‘Learning from Weather Modification in the Era of Growing Interest in Climate Intervention’ and featured panelists Rob Wood, Isabelle Steinke, and Bob Rauber.
STAC Committee Member Sarah Tessendorf and STAC Award winner Sisi Chen
Dr. Sisi Chen of NCAR/RAL was presented with this year’s STAC Outstanding Early Career Award for the development and application of novel modeling techniques to study and advance cloud seeding and cloud physics research. Dr. Chen is a rising star in the world of cloud seeding and cloud physics research and very much deserved this recognition for her impactful contributions so early in her career.

Christopher Hohman (University of Wyoming) and Johannes Keinz (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitat) were both honored for student presentation at the 2024 conference. Mr. Hohman received Best Student Oral Presentation for his talk on Investigating Seeded Orograophic Cloud Microphysics during SNOWIE using WRF-WxMOD. Mr. Keinz received Best Student Poster Presentation for his poster on High-Resolution Simulations of Aerosol Spraying in the Great Barrier Reef: A Marine Cloud Brightening Study.
