Those in attendance: Ralph Ferraro, Chris Velden, John Zapotocny, Tracy DiLiberty, Jeff Hawkins, Kenneth Holmlund, Larry DiGirolamo, Ron McPherson, Phil Arkin, Jim Gurka
Ron McPherson gave an update on various AMS HQ activities, including an updated policy on meetings, the Orlando 2002 Annual Meeting, and the Long Beach 2003 Annual Meeting.
Chris Velden gave his current reflections on the ongoing conference. Attendance was great, especially in light of the fact that it was just only one month after the September 11th tragedy. Kudos was given to Chris and his program committee for doing a great job!
Jim Gurka (NWS) gave an overview of the outcome of a recently held GOES-R User Workshop. The advanced GOES programs will utilize the outcome of upcoming research missions/sensors such as GIFTS and AIRS to help plan out the future GOES sensor suite. In addition, there will be demands for new products such as surface emissivity, enhanced wind products and QPE products.
Phil Arkin gave an overview of the goals of the 2003 Annual Meeting (Long Beach) that he is chairing. We will be part of that meeting, so a call for papers is due by 11/30/01. Jeff Hawkins was asked to chair this conference. Opportunities for joint sessions with groups like Hydrology, Global Change and Education was encouraged.
