AMS Satellite Meteorology, Oceanography, and Climatology Committee Award

AMS Committee on Satellite Meteorology, Oceanography, and Climatology Committee Award Recipient Announced: Recognizing 35+ Years of Exceptional Service

The AMS Committee on Satellite Meteorology, Oceanography, and Climatology is proud to recognize 35+ years of exemplary service by Dr. Johannes Schmetz, Chief Scientist, European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT).

Dr. Schmetz is recognized internationally as a strong proponent and champion of collaborative satellite-based research and development.  Over the course of his remote sensing career, Jo has exhibited tremendous vision for satellite remote sensing and has demonstrated, through his publications and thought leadership, novel and resourceful ways of thinking that have engendered profound advances in our scientific understanding and operational implementation of many valuable practical applications.

Dr. Schmetz's new position as Chief Scientist of EUMETSAT extends his long and trusted scientific leadership and advice on satellite programs.  A former AMS Satellite Committee member, we are pleased that Dr. Schmetz continues to serve as a liaison on many joint US-European satellite partnership activities.
