Introduction to the Joint Effort for Data Assimilation Integration (JEDI) (Virtual Course)

The Joint Effort for Data Assimilation Integration (JEDI) is an open, community resource to enhance, develop, and test tools, components, and methodologies for data assimilation across multiple DA and modeling systems. This virtual short course is designed to introduce new users to the design and structure of JEDI, and to teach them how to access, use, and contribute to JEDI software.

Course Description:

The Joint Center for Satellite Data Assimilation (JCSDA) has established the Joint Effort for Data Assimilation Integration (JEDI) as an open, community resource to enhance, develop, and test tools, components, and methodologies for data assimilation across multiple DA and modeling systems. This short course is designed to introduce new users to the design and structure of JEDI, and to teach them how to access, use, and contribute to JEDI software.

The audience for this course is the environmental modeling and data assimilation operational and research communities, including faculty and students.  In addition, managers of operational weather and environmental forecasting centers, and providers of environmental data that are targeted for assimilation in environmental models are expected to benefit from this course.

Participants will understand:

  1. How JEDI is designed to simplify DA development and testing via modular "separation of concerns."
  2. How to access and download relevant components of JEDI
  3. How to make and test DA modifications using JEDI
  4. How to submit changes for review and potential incorporation
