David Reidmiller was the 2010-2011 AMS-UCAR Congressional Science Fellow.  David served in the office of Senator Mark Udall (CO), who serves of the Senate Energy & Natural Resources and Senate Armed Services Committee.  As a Fellow, he worked on a wide array of climate- and energy-related issues including: the defense-energy nexus, energy tax incentives, post-Fukushima nuclear safety, and clean energy innovation.  Accounting for the wide-ranging interests and spectrum of stakeholders in a "purple" state like Colorado provided David with invaluable experience in developing balanced, pragmatic policy positions.
 

With a strong foundation in domestic energy policy from his Congressional Fellowship, Dr. Reidmiller currently serves as the senior climate science advisor at the State Department.  In that capacity, he advises the international climate negotiating team and senior officials throughout the Department on scientific and technical issues related to climate change - including emissions analyses, energy transformation pathways, geoengineering, etc.  David negotiates science issues under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and also serves as the primary officer interfacing with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change - a role which has him coordinating the U.S. government's responses to the various components of the Fifth Assessment Report.
