As someone who went off the "typical" meteorologist path, I thought that I would lose my connection with AMS. One of my Early Career Leadership Academy classmates highly recommended that I join a board or committee. I've been able to make better connections with meteorologists and make them more aware of how we can work together. I'm looking forward to hopefully attending AMS 2024 in Baltimore and continuing to serve on BOGM, BECP, and the Social Media Committee!

Volunteering on an AMS Committee is a great way to give back to the organization and to people across the country! As a Student Observer on the AMS Committee on Emergency Management (CoEM), I'm able to work directly on outreach efforts for many different people. Through education of communities, our efforts can change lives and save people from devastating impacts caused by weather and natural disasters.

My experiences with AMS volunteer opportunities have been amazing, in part because I see that our volunteer work truly makes a huge difference! It can be challenging, and many of us have demanding 'day jobs,' but in the end, the direction and culture of the AMS is determined to a large extent by volunteers.
