Pamitha Weerasinghe is a science and earth system science policy expert with more than 10 years of experience serving Congress and the non-profit community. For nearly seven years, Pamitha served on the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Science, Space, and Technology with a primary focus on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), earth sciences at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and research at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In his capacity as Professional Staff, Pamitha was responsible for authorizing and evaluating programmatic efforts at these agencies as well as stewarding the legislative priorities of both the Committee ranking member and caucus. After departing the Committee, he joined the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) where he worked on transportation policy as well as on broader defense of science issues. Most recently, he served as the Director of Government Relations and External Engagement for the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR).

Pamitha is a frequent invited speaker on the topic of communicating science to policymakers and routinely provides guidance to early career scientists, and others, who are interested in pursuing careers in public policy. He is presently co-chair of Friends of NOAA, a coalition of organizations that support the mission of the agency, and has held leadership positions in various other external coalitions. Originally from Sri Lanka, Pamitha has lived in multiple states including Texas, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, New Jersey, Maryland, Georgia, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Colorado. He is a graduate of both the University of Maryland, College Park, and the University of Pittsburgh, School of Law. He currently resides just outside of Boulder, Colorado with his marine biologist wife.
