[Boston, MA—25 September, 2024] The American Meteorological Society (AMS) is partnering with Tornado Titans to increase access to meteorological knowledge and educational resources and encourage diversity in storm chasing and meteorology.

The American Meteorological Society is the professional home for everyone involved in the weather, water, and climate sciences and services. Tornado Titans is a multimedia and educational organization that empowers storm chasers, photographers, and outdoor enthusiasts to engage safely with nature’s power and beauty. Both organizations are committed to increasing awareness and engagement in meteorological sciences among people from all walks of life, making this a perfect partnership.

“The American Meteorological Society is committed to fostering partnerships that enhance diversity and provide access to weather-related science for all. Everyone, regardless of background or life experience, should have the opportunity to engage with the wonders of meteorology,” says AMS Executive Director Stella Kafka. “Joining forces with Tornado Titans, a giant in bringing weather content to anyone, anywhere, means that we can both increase our impact in disseminating trustworthy information to all.”

The partnership involves AMS sponsorship of a Tornado Titans communications internship, working together on content creation for weather enthusiasts, and Tornado Titans’ engagement at AMS’s scientific meetings.

“At Tornado Titans, we’re passionate about capturing the incredible beauty and raw power of nature through the lens,” says Raychel Sanner, Founder of Tornado Titans. “Our mission is rooted in the belief that ‘Weather is for Everyone,’ and we strive to create an inclusive and diverse space where anyone can explore and learn. We are excited to partner with AMS to merge their expertise with our commitment to storm education. Together, we are making a difference by increasing access to weather information, helping more people stay safe when extreme weather events approach.”

The Tornado Titans-AMS intern, Lacilynn Graham—a student at The Ohio State University—was selected from a pool of more than 50 applicants. She is helping Tornado Titans develop tornado safety materials and update its glossary for storm chasers.
