George Modica is a Program Manager and Principal Scientist at Verisk Atmospheric and Environmental Research. Over a thirty-seven year career with AER and the Air Force Research Laboratory he has participated in numerous projects in the atmospheric sciences, serving in both management and scientific capacities. These projects included: atmospheric characterization and data assimilation studies of the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere; development of numerical weather prediction systems for specialized applications, including variational and ensemble data assimilation systems; diagnostic icing/turbulence algorithm development studies; application of remote-sensing methods for quantifying wildfire potential. He has participated in the roles of scientist and manager in POES- and GOES-related programs for algorithm development and sensor optimization. Mr. Modica has system engineering experience in all phases of software lifetime, including requirements analysis, design, algorithm analysis and prototyping, and integration and test. He is trained in Earned Value Management and ISO-9001 related processes.
