paleoclimatology, ice core science, and climate change
Project Ice is a comprehensive teacher professional development course based on studies of the Earth's climate system with emphasis on ice cores. It is directed towards improving teacher effectiveness in generating interest and understanding in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics among pre-college students.
The AMS has a long-term interest in pre-college climate education. It serves the atmospheric and related climate sciences, and publishes climatological research journals.
Major components of Project Ice include (a) the identification and training of a cadre of master climate education resource teachers who will assist the AMS in training other pre-college teachers on climate science topics, and (b) the development and implementation of scientifically accurate and pedagogically sound instructional resource materials for teachers.
