The 32nd Conference on Hurricanes and Tropical Meteorology sponsored by the American Meteorological Society and organized by the AMS Committee on Tropical Meteorology and Tropical Cyclones was held April 17-22, 2016 at the Condado Plaza Hilton in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Papers were solicited on all aspects of tropical meteorology and oceanography, including convection, tropical waves, tropical cyclones, extratropical transition, intraseasonal variability, large-scale circulation, monsoons, El NiƱo/Southern Oscillation, tropical extratropical interactions, air-sea interaction, climate, observing systems and strategies, data assimilation, numerical modeling, operational forecasting, storm surge, and hazard communication.
Papers relevant to ongoing and recently completed programs, such as the NASA Hurricane and Severe Storm Sentinel Project (HS3), the NOAA Intensity Forecast Experiment (IFEX), and the Hurricane Forecast Improvement Project (HFIP) were encouraged.
Special sessions recognizing Bob and Joanne Simpson and Edward Zipser for their contributions to the field of tropical meteorology were planned.
AMS policy limited participants to one oral presentation each (you may submit more than one abstract but please note any additional will be assigned as posters). A fee of $95.00 (payable by credit card or purchase order) was charged at the time of submission of each abstract (refundable only if abstract is not accepted). When submitting your abstract, you could indicate whether you prefer a poster or an oral presentation.
Authors of accepted presentations were notified via e-mail by mid-January 2016. All abstracts, extended abstracts, and presentations (including the recordings of those who granted permission) are available on the AMS website.
