AMS wants to help you attend our meetings – we offer several support opportunities to make this possible.

Student Assistant

*All Student Assistant positions have been filled. To be placed on the waitlist, please contact Elias Curtright.

Volunteer students are needed for registration and audio/visual support throughout the conference. Volunteers are required to be in attendance the entire conference, and must be available to work at least a full day from Monday through Thursday. Students must also be available for a training on Sunday evening. In exchange for volunteering, students receive one free conference registration, plus $40.00 per day worked for food allowance. This program is offered on a first-come, first-served basis, and specific conference preferences are not guaranteed. A limited number of students will be needed for the conference. Interested? Travel Grants

AMS will be awarding travel grants to non-presenting students to attend AMS meetings. Presenters are not eligible to apply. The grant program is available to AMS student members and member graduate students (those who are in their last undergraduate year or who are current graduate students). Member status will be confirmed.    

AMS will be awarding one (1) travel grant for the 52nd Conference on Broadcast and Digital Meteorology and one (1) travel grant for the 21st Conference on Mesoscale Processes. 21st Conference on Mesoscale Processes

Student Presentation Awards

The 21st Conference on Mesoscale Processes is proud to provide outstanding student presentation awards at the AMS 52nd Conference on Broadcast and Digital Meteorology and 21st Conference on Mesoscale Processes. Monetary awards of up to $100 will be distributed for oral presentations and poster presentations in addition to a PDF certificate from AMS. Students must be enrolled at a college or university at the time of submission and must be the lead author or presenter of the work. Submitters should indicate their eligibility for student awards when submitting their abstracts. Award recipients will be informed of the committee's decision by mid July.

Very Early Career Research Awards

In addition to the student awards, the 21st Conference on Mesoscale Processes is also proud to provide Very Early Career Research Awards (with monetary awards up to $150) to recognize innovative work from early career scientists at AMS 52nd Conference on Broadcast and Digital Meteorology and 21st Conference on Mesoscale Processes. Those eligible for these awards include postdoctoral researchers, research scientists, and other professionals who received their terminal degrees no more than 5 years prior to the conference. Submitters must be the lead author or presenter of the work, and indicate their eligibility for when submitting their abstracts by selecting "Early Career" in the career stage field. Submitters who prefer not to confirm their eligibility through the abstract submission process should email [email protected]. Award recipients will be informed of the committee's decision by mid July.

Student Presenter Travel Allowances

The 21st Conference on Mesoscale Processes is awarding four (4) travel grants of up to $165 each to allow student presenters to attend the 52nd Conference on Broadcast and Digital Meteorology and 21st Conference on Mesoscale Processes in Boise, ID 23-26 June 2025. To apply, students (Undergraduate and Post-Graduate) should prepare a short written statement (no more than one page) declaring their financial need and circumstance, relevance of their research to the conference, how they will benefit from attending the conference and a copy of their abstract for the meeting. Students who wish to apply must submit their application to the program chairpersons via email with the subject line “AMS 21Meso- Student Presenter Travel Allowance Application”:  Matthew Brown ([email protected]) and Daniel Kirshbaum ([email protected]).

Deadline for applications: 16 April

Recipients will be notified on or before: 30 April
