Radio spectrum is critical to delivering improved consumer services, such as those enabled by mobile broadband, and to driving our economic growth. However, it is also essential for critical government services that protect life and property. Radio spectrum is used for collecting observations and transmitting data that contribute to oceanic, hydrologic, and atmospheric research, models, products, and services.

The briefing will provide a broad overview of how the earth sciences use spectrum, how these uses contribute to the economy and public safety, and the complexities of managing the spectrum for diverse uses.
