Registration rates for the Washington Forum were the same for in-person and virtual participants. We made this decision so that we can offer a robust, flexible, and equitable experience for everyone, whether you are in-person or virtual. Other factors involved include:
Increased costs for the in-person experience (audiovisual expenses, food and beverage costs, facility rental, on-site labor, travel costs, health and safety protocols etc.)
Increased costs for the remote experience (internet and hardware for live streaming, software for messaging and chat, labor, etc.)
It makes it easier for attendees to change their registration method from in-person to virtual and vice versa
It allows presenters the opportunity to present/facilitate discussion in-person or virtually with an in-person and virtual audience.
It is the Society's sincere desire to comply fully with both the letter and the spirit of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990. Attendees with special needs at the conference should check with the AMS Meetings Department by email ([email protected]) or phone (617) 226-3971, four–six weeks prior to the meeting to request special arrangements. Special housing needs should be requested when making hotel reservations.
AMS is committed to creating an environment for meetings that “embraces diversity through the inclusion of individuals across age, gender, race, sex, nationality, ethnicity, physical ability, marital status, sexual orientation, body shape or size, gender identity and expression, socioeconomic status, and other facets of social diversity” (see: https://www.ametsoc.org/index.cfm/ams/about-ams/diversity-and-inclusion-at-ams/).
