Colloquia FAQ

When and where are the Colloquia? Are they hybrid events?
The AMS's Policy Colloquia consist of both virtual and in-person sessions; however these sessions do not take place simultaneously.

In-person sessions for the 2024 Climate Policy Colloquium will be held from Sunday, December 15 -Thursday, December 19 2024 in downtown Washington D.C. Virtual sessions will be held before and after the Colloquium (dates to be determined) to introduce and supplement the in-person experience, respectively.

In-person sessions for the 2025 Science Policy Colloquium will be held from Sunday, June 1 - Friday, June 6, 2025 in downtown Washington D.C. Virtual sessions will be held in May and throughout the summer following the Colloquium (dates to be determined) to introduce and supplement the in-person experience, respectively.

I can attend the in-person sessions but not the virtual ones, should I attend a Colloquium?
Attendance at virtual sessions, while not mandatory, is highly recommended as an opportunity to expand upon material covered in the in-person sessions and to network with peers and experts in the policy arena. Attendance at the in-person sessions is mandatory. If you cannot attend the in-person sessions, it is recommended that you wait to attend the Colloquium in a future year.

How do I register for a Colloquium? Can I cancel my registration?
Please visit each Colloquium's Registration page for more information.

Registration information for the 2024 Climate Policy Colloquium can be found here.

Registration information for the 2025 Science Policy Colloquium can be found here.

Those registered may cancel their registration up to two weeks prior to the start of each Colloquium for a full refund of the tuition fee. Those who cancel registration after the two-week mark will be refunded 50% of the tuition fee.

Do any funding opportunities exist for me to attend a Colloquium?
Graduate students may apply for financial support to attend either Colloquium through a national competition. Postdoctoral researchers may also be eligible for this funding.

Early and mid-career scientists and professionals may apply for the Hooke Fellowship in Policy and Leadership to cover the costs of tuition, room and board, and travel for the Science Policy Colloquium. Other funding opportunities may also be available.

If I am not selected for financial support, may I still register as a paying attendee?
Yes, if not selected for financial support it is still possible to register as a paying attendee (space permitting).

Are any meals provided as part of a Colloquium?
Breakfast and lunch will be provided for every day of the Colloquium.

How should I prepare for a Colloquium?
Please see each Colloquium's About page for recommended reading. In preparing for a Colloquium, please note that the dress code is primarily business casual, although several events will require business attire.

When will Colloquium agendas be available?
The agenda for each Colloquium will not be finalized until near the start date, as speaker availability is likely to shift. A past agenda, representing the types of speakers and events that will typically be part of each Colloquium, may be found here.

What health & safety measures will be in place during the Colloquia? Do I need to wear a mask?
We recommend that you check each Colloquium’s Commitment to Care page for recommendations, guidance, and requirements for our in-person events, which will be adjusted as needed.
