Women in Science Scholarship

Applications were due on 15 March 2024

The Women in Science Scholarship supports women in the atmospheric, oceanic, and climate sciences, and related areas of study. The scholarship was established to acknowledge that gender diversity is essential in the pursuit of better science. An all-woman committee reviews and selects the recipient of this award. The scholarship carries a $10,000 stipend.

The scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic excellence. The recipient of this scholarship is invited to attend the AMS Annual Meeting with partial support (complimentary registration, hotel, and travel cost included) in their senior year.  In addition, the awardee will be invited to serve one year as a member on the AMS Women's Committee.

In completing the application, you will be expected to provide references and transcripts and to describe yourself, your achievements, and your career goals. Note these eligibility requirements:

  • Applicants must be entering their final year of undergraduate study in the fall of 2024
  • Applicants must be pursuing a degree in the atmospheric or related sciences.
  • Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0-point scale.
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens or hold permanent resident status. No age restriction exists.

Applicants are responsible for completing their application before the submission deadline.  Incomplete applications will not be accepted!

The Society encourages applications from women, minorities, and disabled students, traditionally underrepresented in the atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic sciences.

Notifications will go out in June 2024.
