What's New

Explaining Extreme Events 2013 Explaining Extreme Events of 2013 from a Climate Perspective is now available online. This supplement to the September issue of the Bulletin of the AMS presents assessments of how climate change may have affected the strength and likelihood of individual extreme events.

If you missed the Google Hangout “Overcoming Extreme Weather” with past AMS President Marshall Shepherd, NWS Director Louis Uccellini, and others, you can view the recording.

Did You Know?

More than 150 weathercasters are already participating in Climate Matters —a new grant-funded program. Weathercasters receive TV-ready climate data and graphics and earn professional development points for participating in continuing education seminars at the annual meetings of the AMS and the National Weather Association (NWA). Read about the pilot program in BAMS or view the original series on the website of WLTX.

Plans are under way for the 100th anniversary AMS meeting: 12–16 January 2020 in Boston!

The Journal of Applied Meteorology and Climatology made an appearance on screen during The Daily Show with Jon Stewart! There are many volunteer opportunities at the AMS. Serving on an AMS Board or Committee is a great way to network with other colleagues who share your interests.
